INTERIOR MINISTER ASSURES YAGBONWURA OF GOV’T’S COMMITMENT TO PEACE IN SAWLA-BOLE

Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonja, has been reassured by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, that the government will do everything within its power to bring peace back to the Sawla-Bole region, which has been engulfed in violent battles in recent weeks.
Speaking to the media following a private meeting at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo, the minister emphasized the value of cooperation between security forces, community stakeholders, and traditional authorities while expressing the government’s regret over the loss of life and property.
“We have taken note of all the concerns and we have also assured him that we will do everything humanly possible to ensure that peace will be restored. But we need his cooperation and the cooperation of all others. Surely, what talking can solve, dance cannot solve,” he stated.
He emphasized that the best ways to settle disagreements were via communication and collaboration, and he said that the government will carry out its portion of the agreements made, hoping that everyone would follow through on their pledges.
The meeting comes after Sawla-Bole saw a resurgence of tensions that have forced many inhabitants to flee their homes and jeopardized Savannah Region stability. Restoring peace and law and order is still a major priority, the minister reiterated.
“Surely, what talking can solve, dance cannot solve, so we are hoping that after all the lengthy discussion, the conclusion that we have come to, we will go and implement our part, we are hopeful that they will also listen to us and also adhere to the whatever agreement that we’ve had,” he noted.
