Renowned Ghanaian musician and politician, Rex Omar, has called for a thorough investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, daughter of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Speaking on Amansan Krakye’s radio show, Rex Omar urged authorities to scrutinize her role under the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
According to Rex Omar, Gyankroma, a Board Member of the Creative Arts Council, was allegedly involved in questionable transactions that warrant deeper examination. He claimed she received $58 million from the government, supposedly to facilitate the procurement of 307 ambulances for the country.
“Akufo-Addo’s daughter was given $58 million along with her associates to buy ambulances, and I want that particular scandal to be investigated thoroughly,” Rex Omar asserted.
He further alleged that Gyankroma was awarded an additional $34.9 million contract to purchase spare parts for the same ambulances, questioning the large expenditure’s justification. “That huge sum could have been used to buy more ambulances, but instead, it was allocated for spare parts,” he argued.
Rex Omar described the situation as one of several instances of alleged misappropriation of public funds under the Akufo-Addo administration, expressing hope that these cases will be addressed under ORAL.
“This is just one of the numerous scandalous lootings of the country’s wealth that I’m looking forward to seeing investigated,” he added.
Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has yet to comment on the allegations. Meanwhile, calls for accountability within Ghana’s public sector continue to dominate conversations across the nation.
