ISHOWSPEED’S AKROPONG TOUR WAS MY PROUDEST MOMENT – Wode Maya

Ghanaian YouTuber and content creator Wode Maya reveals that the Akropong portion of well-known American streamer IShowSpeed’s Ghana tour was the most satisfying and proud part of the whole experience.
In an interview with Lexis Bill on Personality Profile on Joy FM on Thursday, January 29, Wode Maya stated that the choice to concentrate on Akropong was a conscious effort to highlight the richness of Ghana’s identity, culture, and natural beauty in the short amount of time allotted for the live broadcast.
“For me, Akropong made me so proud because it was a bit of selling everything about who we are as Ghanaians,” he said, explaining that the tour was carefully planned around strict streaming constraints that did not allow long-distance travel.
Although several viewers questioned why IShowSpeed did not travel to places like Cape Coast, the Volta Region, or the country’s northern regions, he disclosed that the logistics of live broadcasting prevented significant travel.
“You can’t go anywhere beyond 15 minutes. The whole arrangement, the streaming — every interval had to be just 15 minutes,” Wode Maya explained.
He claims that in order to enhance the realism and thrill of the trip, the team used the trip to Akropong to highlight neighboring features, such as a waterfall where IShowSpeed received a massage.
Wode Maya further underlined the cultural significance of IShowSpeed being given a Ghanaian name during his engagement with traditional authorities in Akropong, describing it as a powerful moment of cultural bonding.
“He was so excited about the fact that he now has a Ghanaian name and Ghanaian roots,” he said, noting that the gesture resonated strongly with both local and international audiences.
He also commended the Akropong traditional area’s leadership, expressing hope for the role of youth in leadership in light of the chief’s knowledge and seamless cooperation throughout the visit.
“We showcased our culture very well, and that, for me, was the most interesting and proudest part of everything,” Wode Maya added.
Millions of people watched IShowSpeed’s Ghana trip online, putting Ghana’s culture, people, and tourist attractions squarely in the public eye.
