Retired footballer Asamoah Gyan has disclosed for the first time his profound remorse about missing a penalty in the 2010 World Cup final.
In an interview, Gyan expressed that the moment fills him with profound regret since he disappointed his nation and the whole continent of Africa that was supporting him.
Gyan shared the details of his penalty miss, confessing that the method he intended to use for striking the ball was not what transpired.
He mentioned that the day prior to the match, he had taken 20 penalty shots in practice and converted each one.
Consequently, he felt quite assured about scoring; however, the goalkeeper’s actions perplexed him and ultimately caused him to execute the shot poorly.
