‘IT’S JUST 23 HOURS SINCE POLLS CLOSED’ – EC Urges Ghanaians To Be Patient On Election Results

The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged political stakeholders and the public to exercise patience, pointing out that merely 23 hours have elapsed since the polls closed.

At a press conference on Sunday, December 8, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa assured Ghanaians that the presidential and parliamentary election results would be disclosed after they have been completely verified.

Jean Mensa clarified that the Commission is operating under a 72-hour deadline to finalize the verification process needed for precise outcomes.

Her remarks were made following a request from the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who called on the EC to quickly announce the results after Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat as the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The EC Chairperson emphasized that the Commission is dedicated to a careful procedure to guarantee both precision and openness in the ultimate outcomes.

She urged the public to stay calm and permit the EC to execute its constitutional responsibilities.

“We ask that citizens exercise patience, as it has only been 23 hours since the close of the polls. The process is detailed and involves the participation of political party agents and observers at every stage. We will announce the results as soon as they are ready, but no later than 72 hours,” she stated.
