IT’S UNDER MAHAMA’S GOV’T THAT THE SINGLE LARGEST REDUCTION IN TRANSPORT FARES OF 15% OCCURRED – Kwakye Ofosu

Felix Kwakye Ofosu has indicated that the Mahama government is responsible for the largest single drop in transportation costs in Ghana’s history.

Speaking in Parliament during the 2026 Budget debate, he stated that the data unequivocally demonstrate that no government has equalled the scope of the fare decrease put in place under former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the policy was the outcome of regular communication between the government and transportation providers.

He pointed out that the accomplishment may be verified by transportation unions themselves.

“The transport companies will tell you since government began to engage them about a decade ago in the fixing of transport prices twice a year, it is under this government that the single biggest reduction in transport fares of 15% occurred,” he stated.

He contended that the fee cut was an example of responsible economic management at the time, citing important metrics that enabled the government to support affordability and cushion commuters.

He claims that the 15 percent reduction was a conscious attempt to lower living expenses and preserve stability in the transportation industry.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu contrasted this with what he called erratic fare modifications in later administrations, which he claimed put the public under more strain.

He said that the accomplishments of the Mahama administration should be acknowledged as part of its economic legacy because they are still unparalleled.

He emphasized that talks must be based on facts and urged the Minority to acknowledge objective historical records in their contributions to the budget debate.
