Ghanaian gospel artist Celestine Donkor disclosed that she was a victim of fraud perpetrated by Papaye’s online food service.
In a video she recorded herself, Celestine explained how she attempted to order food for her nieces’ birthday from the Lapaz location of the well-known restaurant.
She dialed a number found on their website and made an order, consenting to pay when she picked it up.
Nonetheless, the individual on the other side advised her to make an upfront payment for her order to be expedited. After completing the payment, Celestine discovered that the number she used was not linked to Papaye.
“I called back, and they claimed to be Papaye using the manager’s number, telling me to enter a code to confirm my order. That’s when I realized I’d been scammed,” Celestine explained.
She then went to Papaye Lapaz to report the incident, but when she talked to the staff, they displayed no concern or desire to assist.
“Their attitude made it clear that they were involved in the scam,”
Celestine disclosed that her mobile money account was frozen because of suspicious activity, and airtime was sent to the fraudsters, much like in a situation with actress Ahuofe Patricia.
