JHS DROPOUT WHO RETURNED LOST WALLET, RECEIVES GH₵6K TO RETURN TO SCHOOL

A 16-year-old JHS dropout who located and returned a lost wallet belonging to Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar, the Executive Director of the West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism, between Gbungbaliga and Bimbila in the Northern Region has been rewarded with GH₵ 6,200 for his outstanding ethical behavior.

The funds are intended to assist his return to education.

On April 23, 2025, Nfoye Jonas, hailing from Kpalsogni, a village roughly 20 minutes away from Yendi, was riding a motorbike on an errand when he noticed a purse on the roadside.

Jonas brought the purse home without opening it and gave it to his uncle, Mr. Emmanuel Bigbei. After finding the valuable items, Mr. Bigbei took Jonas to Sankara Radio in Yendi, where the wallet was handed over to the station’s manager, David Takal, in hopes that the true owner would step forward.

The wallet owned by the Executive Director of the West Africa Centre for Counter Extremism held various valuable possessions, such as VISA cards, GH₵ 2,530, USD 180, 2,000 CFA, a Voter’s ID card, a driver’s license, and a Ghana Card.

Mr. Muqthar, engaged in a security operation in Northern Ghana, misplaced his wallet while driving at night along the route from Yendi to Wulensi. Upon discovering its absence, he turned to Facebook to solicit assistance from the public in finding it.

Luckily, the manager of Sankara Radio, Mr. Takal, noticed the post and quickly reached out to Mr. Muqthar to let him know that Jonas had found the lost wallet along with all its contents.

“My team and I drove from Wulensi to Yendi to retrieve the purse,” Mr. Muqthar recounted.

Mr. Muqthar said he was humbled by the extraordinary honesty and kindness shown by Jonas and his family. “This is an improbable display of the true values of patriotism and honesty,” he added.
