Ekow Micah

A Circuit Court in Accra has fixed November 30, to determine the fate of ace Musician Ekow Micah who is being held over 127 grammes of cannabis sativa.

The cannabis was allegedly found concealed in Micah’s “back pack”.

The date for judgment was fixed after Micah had testified and produced his witness. In the case of prosecution it called three witnesses to make their case.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh told parties to file their addresses if any by November 27, adding, it would not entertain any delay whatsoever.

Mounting the witness box earlier, Ms Lily Okyere, a defence witness told the court that she had never seen Micah with any dried leaves in the house before.

Answering questions under cross-examination by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibillah, witness said she spends eight hours with her brother in the house every day.

According to the witness, Micah her brother goes to the Studio to record songs and return to the house to play those songs.

Ms Okyere contended that on the day of the incident, she swept the corridor in the morning but found nothing on the corridor.

Defence witness said she could not tell the owner of the dried leaves concealed in the black polythene bag which was found by one of the police officers. Ms Okyere said she could also not identify the fair complexion gentleman who came to look for her brother on the day of the incident.

Witness said she could also not tell whether or not the gentleman who came to look for her brother was “responsible for the content of the black polythene”.

Led in evidence by defense counsel, Mr. Andrew KudzoVortia, defence witness, said on August 5, 2015 between 1000 hours and 1500 hours, she was in the house when a man, fair in complexion came to look for her brother.

According to Ms Okyere, the said gentleman demanded water, which was not available in the house. Witness contended that after offering him a seat in the corridor, the gentleman gave her GH 20 pesewas to purchase a sachet of water outside.

“When I returned the gentleman was no longer sitting in the corridor rather he was standing in front of the main gate of the house.

“He told me that he was no longer going to wait for Micah so he left,” she added. Witness said she did not hear about her brother’s arrest until Micah came with three police officers to the house.

“When the police officer arrived in the house one of them walked straight to the corridor and told us that this is what he has found. My lord another one escorted me into our room and brought some CD’s and a pen dive, after which they left,” she said.

Micah has denied the charge of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority, and he is currently on remand. Narrating the facts of the case earlier, ACP Moses Atibillah said Micah is a resident of Ogbojo, near Kokrobite in Accra.

He said, on August 4, Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigation.

ACP Atibillah said the following day, at about 1130 hours, the police and the accused person visited Micah’s house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah’s “back pack”.
