Ghana’s creative arts sector, the government has appointed renowned filmmaker, author, and entrepreneur Kafui Danku-Pitcher as the new CEO and Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA). The announcement underscores the administration’s commitment to leveraging the creative industry for economic growth and cultural preservation.
Madam Danku-Pitcher brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a career spanning over 15 years in filmmaking, entrepreneurship, and advocacy. A graduate of the University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and Classics, she is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at the University of Ghana. Her expertise includes leadership, creative industry management, digital innovation, and strategic partnership building.
Since 2008, Danku-Pitcher has been a trailblazer in Ghana’s film industry, both as an actress and filmmaker. She has served as the executive producer of ABC Pictures Limited since 2013, producing critically acclaimed films that have showcased Ghanaian talent on the global stage. Her previous role as a Repatriation Assistant with the UNHCR further highlights her ability to implement standards, conduct socio-economic surveys, and propose strategic solutions, skills that will be invaluable in her new position.
Beyond filmmaking, Danku-Pitcher is a passionate advocate for social change. She launched the “Silence Is Not Golden” campaign to empower women to speak out against abuse, campaigned against child marriage, and supported children suffering from Kwashiorkor. Her efforts earned her recognition from the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) for advancing the role of women in politics, peace, security, and economic institutions.
Danku-Pitcher’s contributions to tourism and entrepreneurship have also been widely acknowledged. She was named Tourism Personality of the Year 2024 and received the Most Outstanding Women Entrepreneur’s Rising award. Through her ‘Dream Achievers Project’, she has empowered start-up businesses, demonstrating her commitment to fostering economic development.
