KENNEDY AGYAPONG NOT LEAVING NPP – Spokesperson Dismisses Breakaway Rumours
Camp of former presidential aspirant insists he remains loyal to party after Bawumia’s primary victory

Speculation that former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, is planning to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been firmly dismissed by his spokesperson.
Kwasi Kwarteng, speaking on behalf of Mr Agyapong, has rejected claims circulating on social media that the former presidential aspirant intends to resign from the party and form a new political movement.
In a Facebook post dated Monday, February 16, Mr Kwarteng described the rumours as baseless and reaffirmed Mr Agyapong’s commitment to the NPP.
The clarification comes in the wake of the NPP’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, where former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious.
Dr Bawumia secured 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 percent of total valid votes cast. Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, accounting for 23.76 percent.
Following the results, sections of Mr Agyapong’s supporters expressed mixed reactions, with some online commentary suggesting he could chart an independent political path.
However, his spokesperson’s latest statement appears aimed at calming tensions and reinforcing party unity ahead of the next general elections.
While Mr Agyapong himself has not publicly addressed the rumours, his camp maintains that he remains a loyal member of the NPP and is committed to the party’s principles and future.
The statement is expected to ease growing speculation and redirect focus toward internal consolidation within the party as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
