A member of the legal team for Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who is a well-known journalist from Ghana, shared some important information.
He said that Kennedy Agyapong, who was a Member of Parliament for Assin Central, offered $10,000 to settle a defamation lawsuit with Anas.
Evans Selasi Adika, speaking in an interview, explained that Anas’ legal team initially asked for more than $30 million in damages.
However, they later agreed to accept a lesser amount, showing some flexibility in their demands.
The defamation case was held in New Jersey, USA, and the jury decided to award Anas $18 million.
This decision came after Kennedy Agyapong made accusations, calling Anas a criminal and evil. These statements led to the legal action taken by Anas.
After the jury’s verdict, Agyapong’s legal team requested a reduction in the damages awarded.
In private, Adika revealed that Agyapong’s team made an offer of only $10,000 to settle the matter, which was considered a very low amount compared to the jury’s award.
