KENNEDY AGYAPONG STANDS AS SURETY FOR PROF. AMEYAW-AKUMFI IN $2M SKY TRAIN TRIAL

Kennedy Agyapong, the former Assin Central MP, has offered to act as Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi’s guarantor in the ongoing Sky Train trial, which concerns a $2 million state financial loss.

Former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chairman Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi pleaded not guilty to four charges, including willfully causing financial loss to the state and purposefully dissipating public funds. He was then granted GHC10 million bail with two sureties to be justified.

The court’s bail conditions were partially met by Mr. Agyapong, a well-known businessman and political figure, who provided a vouch for the 80-year-old politician and scholar, whose advanced age and health have been emphasised throughout the trial.

The charges stem from the disbursement of $2 million for the Accra Sky Train project, which was never realised.

As part of his bail conditions, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi has been ordered to surrender his travel documents and report weekly to the police.

Agyapong’s involvement as surety adds a political dimension to the high-profile trial, which continues to draw public interest and scrutiny over accountability.
