KENYAN CONTENT CREATORS TO MONETIZE ON FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM AFTER GOV’T INTERVENTION

Kenyan content creators will earn money on Facebook and Instagram from June 2024.

In June of this year, content creators on Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram will have the opportunity to monetize their posts, thanks to an agreement between the President of Kenya, William Ruto, and the social media company.

Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, stated, “Kenyan content creators who meet the eligibility criteria will now earn from their Facebook and Instagram spaces as we start monetisation by June this year.

President Ruto praised the move, highlighting its potential to create new income streams for Kenya’s youth, and urged Meta to extend the monetization feature to M-Pesa.

Kenya is the third country in Africa to participate in the Facebook Creator programme. The other 2 African countries participating in the programme are South Africa and Egypt
