CCTV captures brutal assault in Nairobi’s Umoja estate; suspect faces sentencing after fatal attack
A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier has been arrested after allegedly beating a gym instructor to death in Nairobi’s Umoja estate, following claims that the victim was having an affair with his wife.
The deceased, identified as Alphy Migasha, was reportedly attacked by Nicholas Ireri, a KDF officer who had recently returned from deployment in Somalia.
According to police reports and CCTV footage obtained by investigators, the fatal assault occurred on December 22, 2025, outside a liquor joint in Umoja One.
The video shows Migasha seated outside the establishment moments before Ireri approached him. The two appeared to exchange words briefly before the confrontation turned violent.
Ireri was captured on camera pulling Migasha to the ground and repeatedly assaulting him as bystanders tried, but failed, to stop the beating. The soldier then walked away calmly, leaving the gym trainer motionless and severely injured.
Family members rushed Migasha to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained multiple fractured ribs, a broken leg, and severe chest trauma. He later succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save his life.
