KING PALUTA DEMANDS EXPLANATION FROM TGMA OVER “MAKOMA” SNUB

Ghanaian musician King Paluta, through his management team, has formally petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board, seeking clarification on the exclusion of his hit song “Makoma” from the 2025 awards nominations. The petition, dated March 18, 2025, was addressed to the TGMA board and expressed disappointment over the snub, despite the song’s widespread popularity and critical acclaim.

“Makoma,” released in the year under review, has been hailed as one of Ghana’s most popular songs, generating significant excitement among music lovers and dominating airwaves. The song was submitted for consideration in several categories, including Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. However, none of these submissions made it to the official nominees list, prompting King Paluta’s team to demand an explanation.

In the petition, the management team emphasized their belief in the competence of the TGMA board but expressed concern over what they described as an “unpopular decision.” They highlighted that “Makoma” adheres to all moral and ethical requirements set by the board and called for transparency in the selection process.

“We humbly write to your honorable board to demand some explanations in connection with the snub of ‘Makoma’ by King Paluta, a song we duly submitted for consideration, which we believe remains Ghana’s most popular song released the year under review,” the petition stated.

The team also expressed readiness to engage with the TGMA board for possible reconsideration of the song in the submitted categories. They stressed the importance of addressing the concerns of music enthusiasts and the general public, who have expressed surprise and disappointment over the omission.
