Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, gave a 24-hour ultimatum for the faulty elevator in the Department of Surgery at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to be promptly repaired, which was then done.
The hospital’s administration has verified that the elevator is now functioning properly.
The repairs were conducted following the alleged refusal by the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital management to allow Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to inspect the lifts in the Surgical Department.
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, was conducting a regular inspection at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to evaluate the condition of its facilities, specifically the lifts in the Surgical Department.
Reports have shown that Akandoh had been getting numerous complaints from patients and staff regarding the malfunctioning elevators, which are crucial for the smooth functioning of the hospital, particularly in critical departments such as surgery.
Upon reaching the hospital, Akandoh and his team were allegedly prevented from entering the lift area by hospital staff on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Some experienced doctors in the department approached him.
In a viral video, Dr Adu Aryee, a surgeon at the facility questioned the MP’s identity and authority to conduct the visit without prior notice.
“I don’t know you, Who are you? Do you have any letter introducing you? I have never met you in my life. told “I don’t know you. Do I know?” Dr Adu Aryee said.
Akandoh voiced his discontent with the situation, indicating that his visit was a duty related to his role as a member of the Health Committee.
