KUMASI MAYOR SHUTS DOWN FOOD JOINT, SUMMONS 10 SHOPS TO COURT OVER UNHYGIENIC CONDITIONS AT KROBO-ODUMASE

The Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi, has ordered the immediate closure of Alpha and Omega Chop Bar at Krobo-Odumase in Kumasi’s Central Business District, citing severe sanitary breaches.
The move came after the Mayor conducted an examination and found a strong, unpleasant smell coming from an overflowing sewage system that posed serious health dangers to local commuters and shopkeepers.
According to investigations, the food joint’s garbage had clogged the drains, and the issue was made worse by a public restroom behind the establishment that discharged waste directly into the drainage system since it lacked a sufficient septic tank.
The owners of the restroom facility and more than ten other stores that contribute to the unhygienic conditions have been called to court for operating without the necessary permissions, the mayor confirmed.
“We are summoning all of them to court for the law to deal with them,” he said.
Mayor Ofori Agyemang-Boadi warned that noncompliance with environmental and public health standards would result in severe penalties and encouraged all operators of food outlets and sanitation facilities to comply.
“We expect strict adherence to the laws. Public health cannot be compromised,” he added.
