Veteran Ghanaian actor, Agya Koo feels that his exclusion from roles at a pivotal time is what led to the demise of the Kumawood film industry.
Speaking on Kumasi’s Ezra FM radio station, he asserted that his exclusion had a profound effect on the industry since he was the most marketable actor—even if some blamed the demise of the profession on the advent of CDs.
“Though I was not the only one acting at the time, anytime people wanted to watch Ghanaian movies, they mentioned the name Agya Koo. Why didn’t they ask for someone else’s name?” he stated.
Agya Koo cherished his memories of the colourful Kumawood era when his name was well associated with Ghanaian cinema, particularly among Ghanaians living overseas, particularly in the USA.
He maintained that when people asked about Ghanaian films, they frequently asked if he was in the cast, demonstrating his unparalleled marketability and impact.
