TELECEL USERS TO RECEIVE 10% MORE DATA ON EXISTING PRICES EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025 — Minister Samuel Nartey George

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced a forthcoming enhancement in data bundles offered by Ghana’s leading telecom operators, including Telecel.

During a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Minister George revealed that starting July 1, 2025, customers of Telecel will enjoy a 10% increase in data across all existing bundles without additional cost. This initiative forms part of a broader industry-wide adjustment aimed at improving data value for consumers.

According to the Minister, the new data package adjustments are as follows:

  • Airtel Tigo Ghana: 10% increase on all data offerings

  • Telecel: 10% increase on all current data bundles

  • MTN Ghana: 15% increase on all current data bundles

Minister George clarified that while he cannot unilaterally dictate pricing to telecom companies, his leadership style focuses on engagement and collaboration to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. “The Minister cannot unilaterally order telcos to reduce data prices,” he stated emphatically.

He acknowledged the challenge in reversing the effects of eight years of sector mismanagement, noting that such recovery cannot be achieved overnight. “The recovery of 8 years of mismanagement can’t be completed in four months,” he remarked.

In addition, the Minister issued a stern warning to telecom operators that fail to implement the agreed increases by the July 1 deadline, emphasizing that the National Communications Authority (NCA) will enforce strict monitoring and apply sanctions where necessary. “The implementation date of July 1 is to allow the networks to recalibrate and reconfigure their systems to reflect the agreed-upon values. Where failure is applied, sanction is applied,” he said.

Minister George acknowledged that these increases might impose significant operational costs on the networks but stressed the importance of delivering improved data value to Ghanaian consumers.

This move is expected to enhance internet accessibility and affordability, a critical factor in accelerating Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
