Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, and the newly elected independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, has pledged to fulfill his campaign promises by addressing the pressing concerns of his constituents.
In an interview with UTV on December 10, 2024, A Plus vowed to reclaim lands that had been unlawfully seized from residents of Gomoa Central. “This week, I am going to take some of the biggest actions they have not seen before. All the lands that have been seized over the years, I will retrieve them and re-establish that those areas belong to us,” he stated.
The outspoken musician-turned-politician revealed that his victory was largely attributed to a thorough needs assessment conducted in the constituency, which allowed him to focus on issues that resonated with the people.
“When we started the campaign, I told my people what I was going to do. We identified key issues, such as bad roads and the lack of toilet facilities, as the primary concerns. That became our campaign message, and it worked,” he explained.
A Plus defeated the incumbent MP from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Eyiah Quansah, in a tightly contested election. He secured 14,277 votes, while Nana Eyiah polled 11,637 votes. Other parliamentary candidates garnered a combined total of 10,112 votes.
A Plus’ pledge to reclaim seized lands and address infrastructure deficits has been met with high expectations from his constituents, who are eager to see significant changes under his leadership.
