Legendary highlife musician Amakye Dede and his team were involved in a road accident on Sunday, December 29, 2024, while traveling from Takoradi to Agona Swedru for a scheduled performance.
The incident occurred around 1:50 AM on the stretch between Apam and Winneba. Following the accident, the iconic singer and his team were rushed to the Winneba Hospital, where they received medical attention between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The vehicle involved was a V8 carrying Amakye Dede and his management team.
Despite the physical toll of the ordeal, Amakye Dede showcased immense dedication to his fans by proceeding to Kumasi later that morning for another scheduled performance. However, due to the strain and impact of the incident, the highlife legend was unable to perform. In his stead, his dynamic band stepped in and delivered a remarkable performance to ensure fans were not disappointed.
Management of the artist issued an official statement expressing regret over the incident and apologized to fans, particularly those in Kumasi, for the inconvenience caused. The statement further acknowledged the overwhelming support and patience from fans during this challenging time.
“We thank you for your prayers and love and ask for a few days to fully recover. We promise to return stronger, energized, and ready to deliver the legendary performances you know and love,” the management assured.
