A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has demanded the apprehension and legal action against the troubled Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, for providing food to security personnel during the special voting event on Monday.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that these actions are inappropriate for someone of her stature, especially as a Member of Parliament and a Parliamentary Candidate.
In a conversation with JoyNews, he registered his dissatisfaction that the beneficiaries of the food were security personnel, mentioning his astonishment that none of them declined the offer.
“What further unsettled me was when the parliamentary candidate for that specific constituency, when asked, denied the action.” “That individual lacks the necessary qualifications,” he remarked.
This comes after an event in which the current MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon was observed handing out food to voters waiting in line during Monday’s special voting session.
Even though footage showed the MP in the act, she asserted in later interviews with reporters that she had never participated in such behavior.
“I wasn’t here. I don’t know if you saw me here. I came here before 6 a.m. and left a few minutes ago. I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I am yet to find out from them what happened,” she stated.
In this regard, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe contended that in a more advanced nation, Lydia Alhassan would have been forced to drop out of the competition.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed his wish that the current MP would lose the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat if she persists in running after the incident.
He urged the Ghana Police Service, especially the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the issue.
“In fact, if this had happened in a civilised country, she would have left the contest by now. The party would have demanded her withdrawal.
“She denied flatly, even though she was captured on video. We don’t need such people in Parliament or as lawmakers—they will destroy this country,” he stressed.
“She is a person you cannot rely on, and this should alarm us, particularly the security services,”
“I have always been saying that the IGP seems to talk a lot, but a lot happens that he’s quiet about.
“Such a person [Lydia Seyram Alhassan] should have been arrested. I think we have been hearing a lot of lectures from the IGP. He must act. That is what the people of this country want,” he added.
