MAAME DOKONO CALLS FOR RETURN OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN HOMES AND SCHOOLS
Veteran Ghanaian actress and broadcaster, Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono has ignited a national dialogue by fervently supporting the reinstatement of corporal punishment in homes and schools.
During the ‘Convergence of Mothers’ forum in Accra, led by media figure MzGee, the celebrated screen icon expressed concern over what she views as a concerning drop in discipline among the youth of today.
Based on her experiences as a mother of six, Maame Dokono contended that strict discipline, which includes physical correction, is essential for raising morally sound children.
“Back in the day, I never spared the rod when raising my children. I disciplined them when necessary and praised them when they behaved well. That’s how parenting should be,” she stated emphatically.
“When a child went astray, four boys would hold them while they were caned, it was a way to drum sense into them.
These days, they tell us not to beat children. We need to bring that back,” Maame Dokono said to a round of applause from sections of the audience.
She stressed the importance for Ghanaian society to reflect on cultural values that previously united families and communities
