Prominent figures from Ghana’s media and creative arts sector were spotted in Parliament on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, to support Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, during her vetting.
In a video spotted by NKONKONSA.com, several notable personalities, including veteran actress Maame Dokono, musician Sherifa Gunu, media personality and Queenmother Jane Awindor, former Deputy National Theatre CEO Akosua Abdallah, and the father of the late journalist Komla Dumor, were seen seated behind Dzifa Gomashie in the Appointment Committee Hall.
The vetting, part of the committee’s fourth sitting, is a key step in determining Dzifa Gomashie’s confirmation as the substantive minister. President John Dramani Mahama nominated her for the position on January 16, 2025, as outlined in a statement signed by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Dzifa Gomashie, a seasoned advocate for tourism and creative arts, previously served as Deputy Minister for the sector from 2013 to 2017 under Mahama’s administration. She is also a two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, where her tenure has been marked by significant development and community empowerment initiatives.
The gathering of industry stalwarts in Parliament underscores Dzifa Gomashie’s deep connections within the creative and media community, signaling widespread support for her potential appointment to drive Ghana’s tourism and cultural development.
