Maame Efua Houadjeto has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), succeeding Akwasi Agyeman, who resigned from the position a week ago.
Houadjeto, a former Deputy Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Mfantsiman Constituency in the 2024 elections, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her appointment is expected to bolster the GTA’s efforts to position Ghana as a leading sustainable tourism destination.
The Ghana Tourism Authority, one of the thirteen agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, is tasked with promoting sustainable tourism development in the country. The agency leverages advanced technology and ICT, effective regulation, and standardization to achieve its goals.
Key priorities for the GTA include strengthening multi-agency and public-private partnerships, driving aggressive marketing campaigns, promoting robust investment opportunities, and enhancing service, safety, and health standards within the tourism industry. The authority also emphasizes accountability and shared responsibility in its operations.
As a key player in sustainability, the GTA is committed to creating positive societal change through its initiatives. The agency collaborates with various partners across multiple sectors, utilizing innovative platforms to drive its mission forward.
Houadjeto’s leadership is anticipated to further advance the GTA’s strategic objectives, ensuring Ghana remains a top choice for sustainable tourism while fostering economic growth and development in the sector.
