PRESIDENT MAHAMA’S GOVERNMENT IS TO BLAME IF LIVES ARE LOST – Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association’s (GRNMA) vice president, Samuel Alagkora Akologo, has declared that if any people are killed during the present strike by nurses and midwives, the government must be held accountable.
On June 2, 2025, the health workers went on strike in protest of the government’s noncompliance with an agreement they had struck with the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
Millions of cedis are owing over time as a result of the GRNMA issues, which include the non-payment of essential allowances including responsibility, uniform, and non-basic allowances.
Additionally, more than 5,000 recently qualified nurses and midwives have been waiting for formal postings since late 2024, which is a hardship for them.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Samuel Alagkora Akologo stated, “Give us the best care and we can also give the best care and service to the people of Ghana. If we should lose a single life because of this agitation, it is the employers who should be held responsible, because what they are saying is that the health of Ghanaians is not important.
“The employers of the health workers are treating us like people who do not even matter. When we started the process, people were lambasting us and saying that we should exercise patience.
Today’s meeting has reaffirmed our earlier position that the employers do not intend to implement our conditions of service. We have been vindicated.”
