MAHAMA PUSHES FOR TIMELY COMPLETION OF OFANKOR-NSAWAM ROAD BY Q2 2026
President issues deadline to contractors during site inspection; project faces renewed urgency after multiple delays and public frustration.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed contractors working on the long-delayed Ofankor-Nsawam Road project to ensure completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026, marking a firm commitment to resolving the infrastructure delay that has plagued commuters for years.
During a working visit to the construction site on Wednesday, September 3, the President, accompanied by the Minister of Roads, expressed optimism about recent progress but emphasized the critical need to maintain momentum while minimizing disruption to motorists.
“I can see that drivers are happy now, and I hope that from now till you finish the project, you will maintain a smooth flow of traffic even as you are working so that you don’t impede the flow of traffic,” President Mahama stated while addressing the contractors.
He added definitively, “So we will hold you to your work. You say by the end of the second quarter next year you should be finished.”
The presidential directive comes amid growing public concern over traffic congestion and environmental pollution along the key commuter route, which has seen several completion deadline extensions since construction officially began in July 2022 under the previous administration.
The project’s initial completion target was set for July 2024, but funding challenges have repeatedly postponed this deadline, sparking protests from drivers and residents frustrated by the ongoing construction’s impact on daily life.
