PRESIDENT MAHAMA REMOVES ANNE SANSA DALY FROM NHIA BOARD OVER LICENSING CONCERNS
Prof. Ernest Yorke Nominated as Replacement Amid Questions Over Medical Credentials
President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointment of Anne Sansa Daly from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), following widespread concerns regarding her lack of a valid medical license to practise in Ghana.
An official letter from the Office of the President confirmed the nomination of Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke to replace Daly with immediate effect. Authorities have been directed to facilitate the swearing-in of Prof. Yorke, a respected medical practitioner and former Greater Accra Regional Chair of the Ghana Medical Association.
While the letter did not explicitly state the reasons for Daly’s removal, credible sources point to public and professional backlash over her representation as a licensed medical doctor despite not holding a valid practising license in the country. Health sector stakeholders had questioned her qualifications and suitability to serve on the board of a critical public health institution.
The NHIA Board is instrumental in steering the management and policy direction of Ghana’s national health insurance scheme, which impacts millions of citizens nationwide. Industry experts have welcomed the appointment of Prof. Yorke as a credible and capable figure to help restore confidence in the board’s oversight functions.
