MAHAMA TO LAUNCH ADWUMAWURA PROGRAMME TODAY TO TACKLE YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

President John Mahama is prepared to inaugurate the government’s key initiative, ‘Adwumawura’, in Kumasi today, April 28, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.

This is to signify the start of an ambitious new effort to address youth unemployment and spark entrepreneurial spirit throughout Ghana.

The Adwumawura Programme is an exclusive business launch initiative designed to support the establishment, monitoring, and guidance of a minimum of 10,000 businesses annually, emphasising the empowerment of youth.

It will be led by the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment via the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

Aiming at Ghanaians between 18 and 35 years old, the initiative vows to provide the upcoming generation with resources to launch, expand, and maintain their businesses — a vital support for many pursuing economic self-sufficiency.

Adwumawura serves as a key element of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 manifesto, emphasising the party’s broad pledge to generate 250,000 jobs each year through several initiatives, including the highly publicised “Edwuma Pa” program.

By focusing intensely on entrepreneurship, skills training, and digital innovation, the Mahama administration seeks to establish Ghana’s youth as the forefront of national economic advancement.

Supporting this goal, the 2025 Budget Statement introduced by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson in March set aside a substantial GH₵100 million to initiate the Adwumawura programme.

The resources will assist young entrepreneurs through skills training, mentorship, access to initial capital, and equipment provision — a comprehensive approach to ensure businesses not just survive but flourish.
