MAHAMA UNVEILS ‘BLACK STAR EXPERIENCE’ TO TRANSFORM GHANA INTO GLOBAL TOURISM HUB

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled ‘The Black Star Experience, a new initiative aimed at transforming Ghana into a global tourism hub. Announced during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2025, the project will showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and creative arts to attract tourists and drive economic growth.

“Our goal is to establish Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora, offering thoughtfully curated cultural, historical, and creative arts experiences in collaboration with the private sector, diplomatic missions, ministries, departments, and agencies,” President Mahama declared.

The Black Star Experience will feature a series of events and activities under the newly introduced Pan African Month, which aims to celebrate and showcase Ghana’s unique identity. Key highlights include:

  • Street carnivals
  • Film week
  • Fashion festivals
  • Food fairs
  • Theatrical and drama performances
  • Concert party competitions
  • Monthly domestic tourism destinations

President Mahama emphasized that the initiative is not just about promoting culture but also driving economic growth. By attracting tourists and investors, the project aims to create jobs, boost local businesses, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a hub for global tourism.

To lead this ambitious project, the President has appointed veteran musician Rex Omar as a Presidential Staffer. With his extensive experience in the creative arts industry, Omar is expected to bring innovative ideas and strategic direction to ensure the success of The Black Star Experience.
