MAHAMA’S ADMINISTRATION WILL END WITHOUT A SCANDAL, VOWS DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER
Thomas Nyarko Ampem points to the President’s “woe betide you” warning to appointees as a driving force for accountability, pledging a scandal-free four-year term.

Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has expressed strong confidence that the administration of President John Mahama will complete its four-year term without a single scandal, citing the President’s uncompromising stance on corruption.
Speaking at the Annual Conference of the African Association of Accountants General in Accra, Mr. Ampem highlighted the administration’s track record of ten months without a scandal and projected the same standard for its full tenure.
“It has been 10 months of no scandal. Hopefully, we will end the first year with no scandal. Second year, third year, and the administration will end without a scandal,” he stated.
His remarks follow a stern address by President Mahama on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, during a meeting with the Christian Council of Ghana, where he issued a sharp warning to public officials. The President vowed to severely punish any appointee involved in corrupt practices, declaring, “Woe betides the first person who brings a scandal to this government.”
According to Mr. Ampem, this directive has instilled a strong sense of responsibility among government officials. “If you meet any appointee, what we say is, ‘Hey, let me be sure that I’m not the first to bring scandal to the President.’ This is putting us on our toes,” he explained.
He praised President Mahama for providing what he described as firm and necessary leadership in promoting ethical conduct in public service, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting public resources and maintaining trust.
