Benjamin Owusu, 35, has been detained by the Central East Regional Police Command for staging a robbery and kidnapping at Fijai, a neighborhood of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano, Central Region.

Owusu texted a complaint on September 3, 2025, saying he was being attacked at his home, according to police.

Although bloodstains were detected on his bedroom floor, he was not there when the police arrived. Human blood was later found to be absent from samples collected for forensic examination.

According to investigations, Owusu threw away the SIM card that was used to transmit the distress message, but on September 5 he replaced it and placed calls that were traced back to Elubo in the Western Region.

On September 24, additional information resulted in his capture at a hiding place in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region.

During questioning, Owusu admitted to slaughtering a duck and staging the crime scene with its blood to hide his failure to account for his employer’s money.

In a statement released on September 25, the police affirmed that Owusu will be charged following the conclusion of their investigation.

In addition to praising the people for supporting his arrest, the Command issued a warning that others who engage in such behavior will be subject to the full force of the law.
