MARIGOLD AKUFO-ADDO OFFICIALLY INSTALLED AS ABREWATIA IN AKROPONG-AKUAPEM

In a vibrant ceremony, the Omanhene (paramount chief) of the Akuapem traditional area welcomed Marigold Nana Abena Oye Akufo-Addo as the Abrewatia (female chief) of Benkum Kyeame Abusua of Akropong-Akuapem in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Marigold Nana Abena Oye Akufo-Addo, an artist, entrepreneur, and cultural advocate, has demonstrated a deep commitment to her heritage through her work and activities. As Abrewatia, she assumes the role of matriarch representing the Benkum Kyeame royal family in matters concerning chieftaincy, progress, innovation, and the wellbeing of the Okuapeman community.

The ceremony included various cultural activities, including a wreath-laying ceremony, private and public conferment ceremonies, and a thanksgiving service. Dignitaries, family members, and friends, including President Akufo-Addo, chiefs, and clergy from across the country, attended the event.

Marigold’s dedication to her Akuapem community is evident through her active involvement in addressing challenges and fostering unity. Her civic leadership has earned her the nickname “Abrewatia a odi Amantrasa,” reflecting her contributions in Akwamufie, Okuapeman, and Ahenease (Akyem).

Educated at various institutions including the Slade School of Fine Art at University College London, Marigold has honed her artistic skills and worked as a display artist at the Ghana Museum and Monument.

She has curated exhibitions in several countries, established studios and galleries, and participated in international trade shows. She’s also been engaged in cultural and creative initiatives, serving on the Board of the Commission on Culture and chairing the Creative Industries Project Ghana (CIPG). Additionally, she founded the Kasafie Foundation, an organization that provides therapy to children living with autism.

Marigold expressed her commitment to serving her community and building on the legacy of matriarchs who came before her. The ceremony symbolizes her dedication to Okuapeman’s progress and prosperity.
