The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has apologized to Ghanaians for the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.Ghana did not succeed in winning any of their six qualifying group games, causing them to miss the tournament in Morocco.Otto Addo’s team ended up in last place in Group F, with Angola and Sudan advancing, while Niger, who beat Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium, finished in third place.
The Black Stars had garnered just three points out of six games, with three draws and three losses.
Many Ghanaians are angered by the team’s disappointing performance, with some demanding that both the coach and GFA president, Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, step down.
The GFA expressed its apologies to Ghanaians in a statement issued today after its Executive Council meeting held yesterday.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to express its sincerest apologies to the good people of Ghana for the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.We understand the disappointment and frustration this failure has caused, and we share in the pain and sadness of our beloved fans. We acknowledge that the team’s performance did not meet the high expectations of the nation, and for that, we are truly sorry.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal football fans for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the qualifying campaign. Your passion and dedication are what drive us to strive for excellence.”
In the meantime, the Association has proposed certain steps to improve the team’s future performance.The actions involve disbanding the Black Stars management committee, calling for Otto Addo, and organizing a football retreat to involve important parties.
