In a discussion on United Showbiz MC Yaa Yeboah confidently endorsed the idea of men having multiple wives, believing that men should be allowed to engage in polygamy if they desire and have the financial means to support it.
She also emphasized the hypocrisy in society, with men receiving criticism for having multiple wives while women who become second wives are judged or looked down upon.
However, when influential men practice polygamy, it hardly ever seems to be a concern for anyone. Throughout the program, UTV, the outspoken host, challenged the negative stereotype against second wives and raised doubts about the notion of a woman “stealing” someone else’s husband.
“They criticise the other woman for clinging to someone’s husband and not finding her own. If a married man doesn’t date the other woman, how will he be able to make his choice of a second wife? That is why I don’t believe the assertion that another woman can snatch someone’s husband. What evidence do you have? What did she snatch him with?“
She defended women who want to be second wives and implied that if first wives are uncomfortable, they can leave the marriage if their goals don’t match.
“If a woman wants to be a second wife, let her be. As long as she understands the advantages and disadvantages of being a second wife, let her be. And to the first wives, if your husband wants to bring a second wife and you don’t want it or the stress that comes with it, leave the marriage. Life can be so simple,“
She proceeded to criticize the rise of marriage counsellors, implying that a lot of them give guidance even though they are facing their own marital problems.
“These days there are a lot of marriage counsellors on social media, I don’t believe in those things. There are a lot of people who claim they are marriage counsellors but their married life is a mess,” she stated.
She emphasized that some of these counsellors lacked credibility and that their advice should be thoroughly evaluated before being followed.
