In a thrilling showdown, Mfantsipim School, affectionately known as “BOTWE,” claimed victory at the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), edging past St. Augustine’s College by just one point. Mfantsipim’s final push came in the fifth round when they correctly answered a riddle question, securing a narrow lead over St. Augustine’s, who had been in front until that critical moment.
The contest concluded with Mfantsipim scoring 47 points, St. Augustine’s College finishing close behind with 46 points, and Keta Senior High School (KETASCO) rounding out the podium with 32 points. Alongside their third NSMQ trophy, Mfantsipim was awarded GHC10,000 for the highest score of the day, courtesy of Pepsodent.
This marks Mfantsipim’s third NSMQ title, with previous wins in 1999 and 2014. St. Augustine’s College was vying for a third win after titles in 2007 and 2019, but fell just short in the final moments. Despite a valiant effort, KETASCO, reigning Volta-Oti Zonal champions, couldn’t keep pace with the top two but managed to boost their score in the final round.
This year’s NSMQ final will be remembered for its intense rivalry, close scoreline, and dramatic finish that crowned Mfantsipim School as champions.
