The Minority in Parliament has leveled serious allegations against National Security operatives, accusing them of stealing money and jewelry during a raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison. The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, revealed that the operatives allegedly took GH¢10,000 and pieces of jewelry belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife during the early morning raid on Wednesday, March 20, 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing in Parliament on Thursday, March 21, Afenyo-Markin condemned the actions of the security operatives, describing their conduct as “lawless” and accusing them of targeting former government officials affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“This morning, the Minority caucus is here to express its concerns about the growing lawless conduct of our National Security operatives, who have been unleashed on opponents, particularly the former NPP appointees of President Akufo-Addo. The aim is to intimidate and frustrate them,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
The Minority Leader recalled a similar incident involving a raid on the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, led by Richard Djakpa, whom he described as an NDC activist and self-proclaimed director of operations at the National Security. Afenyo-Markin alleged that Djakpa led another team of armed men to Dr. Addison’s residence at Roman Ridge in Accra at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, claiming to have a warrant to search the premises.
“According to Jakpa, he had a warrant to search for a vault in which he believed Dr. Addison had stored cash. They overpowered the security and forced their way in. This Rambo-style approach must stop,” Afenyo-Markin said.
The Minority Leader further criticized the government for what he described as the politicization of state security agencies, warning that such actions undermine democracy and the rule of law. He called for an immediate investigation into the alleged theft and the conduct of the National Security operatives involved in the raid.
“The Minority will not sit idly by while state security is used as a tool for political witch-hunting and intimidation. We demand accountability and transparency in this matter,” Afenyo-Markin added.
