MOST VICTIMS OF ROMAN RIDGE BUILDING COLLAPSE DISCHARGED – Fire Service

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reports that while some victims are still receiving medical care, the majority of those hurt in Tuesday’s Roman Ridge building collapse have been treated and released from the hospital.
Desmond Ackah, the Service’s head of public relations, disclosed on the AM Show that while some victims’ conditions were initially critical, all are now stable.
“As of yesterday around 9:00 p.m., we had information that some of them had been discharged from the hospital, except a few whose conditions were critical. But we were assured that they were all out of danger,” Mr. Ackah said.
Precautionary steps have been taken to safeguard the site and halt all construction activity, he continued, while investigations have already started to identify the reason for the collapse.
“As a precautionary measure, we succeeded in cordoning off the area and instructed the contractors to hold on with any further construction until investigations are concluded,” he noted.
The event happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Ghana Institute of Engineering and a ten-story high-rise apartment building at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre.
Fourteen men were trapped in the collapsed construction, which was allegedly built by Fabrico Builders. They were later rescued and transferred to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital.
Engineers, safety inspectors, and Fire Service officials are expected to carry out a thorough investigation to determine what caused the collapse.
According to Mr. Ackah, the Service is still optimistic that the remaining victims will be released shortly.
“We are praying and believing that hopefully soon they would also be discharged,” he added.
Since then, authorities have promised the public that updates will be given as soon as the investigative report is complete.
