MUSIGA HONORS PRESIDENT MAHAMA AT GOLDEN JUBILEE SOIREE FOR CHAMPIONING MUSIC SECTOR
The Musicians Union of Ghana presented a special award to the President for his advocacy and institutional support, while also celebrating 50 years of union history with a commemorative book and legacy honours.

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) celebrated its 50th anniversary by honoring President John Dramani Mahama with a special award for his unwavering support of Ghana’s creative industries, particularly the music sector.
The presentation took place during the MUSIGA Golden Jubilee Soiree at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Saturday, November 29, an event held under the auspices of the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
The award, received on behalf of the President by Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, cited his compassionate advocacy for ageing and struggling musicians, his role in establishing the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and his consistent investment in the “humanity behind the music.”
Other distinguished honorees included veteran ethnomusicologist Professor Edmond John Collins, former MUSIGA presidents Agya Koo Nimo, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, Diana Hopeson, and Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour), as well as promoter Freddie Annan and retired MUSIGA Chairman Ben Kolaan.
The evening also featured the auction of a commemorative book, “The MUSIGA Story,” with Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe securing a copy for GHC 10,000. The event saw performances by music legends including Obrafour, Pat Thomas, and Adane Best.
As part of its golden jubilee, MUSIGA announced the launch of three major events for 2026: the Ghana Music Honour, The MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball, and Live Band City, signaling a renewed commitment to elevating Ghana’s music industry.
