MY CEMENT SHOP ATTENDANT’S SALARY IS BETTER THAN WHAT SOME JOURNALISTS TAKE – Bridget Otoo

Bridget Otoo, a broadcaster who has won awards, has brought attention to the difficult situation of Ghanaian journalists, stating that they are paid very low salaries every month.

Otoo, who serves as an anchor for Metro TV, expressed concern over the notable decrease in the standard of journalism in the nation, stating that it is due to media professionals not receiving adequate compensation.

Otoo believes media house owners should acknowledge the importance of quality journalism by providing competitive salaries to inspire their employees to perform excellently.

Otoo openly admitted that she pays her cement shop attendant more than what a lot of journalists make from their media jobs.

“In 2024, offering a journalist a basic salary of GH₵3,000 would be considered reasonable. However, the reality is far from that. I can personally attest that I pay my cement shop staff even more generously than what some journalists receive,” Otoo emphasized, underscoring the critical role of financial remuneration in the journalism profession.

Emphasizing fair pay is crucial in motivating journalists to excel, underscoring the significance of media companies prioritizing their employees’ financial health for a thriving journalistic sector in Ghana.
