“MY HEART IS BROKEN IN WAYS WORDS CAN’T EXPRESS” – Sam George Mourns Death of Omane Boamah, Murtala, and Others in Helicopter Crash

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has expressed profound grief following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed, and several other government officials.

Writing on his official Facebook page, the Ningo-Prampram MP lamented the devastating loss, stating:
“My heart is broken in ways words cannot begin to express.”

Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, also shared his sorrow, describing the incident as “a very difficult moment for all of us.”

The Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, formally announced the deaths during a press briefing held in Accra on August 6, confirming the loss of several prominent figures, including former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, who was also on board.

Other confirmed casualties include Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament; and Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The helicopter crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were also among those who perished.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) announced the disappearance of the Air Force Z9 helicopter, which was traveling from Accra to Obuasi. The aircraft lost contact mid-flight and was later reported to have crashed and burned beyond recognition in Adansi Akrofum, Ashanti Region.

In a statement, the GAF confirmed that the helicopter carried eight people, three crew members and five passengers and reassured the public that “all efforts are being made to establish contact and ascertain the fate of the aircraft.”
