MY SEAT HELPED AVERT TENSIONS AT NPP PEACE PACT CEREMONY – Bryan Acheampong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Bryan Acheampong said his actions helped prevent a public confrontation between rival contenders during the party’s peace pact ceremony held ahead of its 31 January primaries.

Acheampong, who is the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, made the comments while addressing party delegates during a campaign tour of parts of the Ashanti Region on Friday.

Referring to the January 22 ceremony in Accra, Acheampong suggested that visible tension between former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong could have escalated without his intervention.

“I believe that it was God’s intervention that made me sit on the second chair, which was in between number one and number three,”

Acheampong said while addressing delegates in Manso Nkwanta and Manso Adubia  “If I had not held on to the person sitting on chair number one, what would have happened there would have been nothing to write home about.”

He said while the event appeared orderly to the public, underlying friction among the contenders was evident.

“I hope you all saw it on TV. I urged them to smile. It demonstrates that there are problems in the party,” he said. “When Number One managed to smile a little, Number Three also started frowning.”
