MY STANCE ON ANTI-LGBTQ+ BILL REMAINS UNCHANGED –Sam George Insists

Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George has reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, declaring that he has resubmitted the controversial legislation to Parliament for reconsideration.

In an interview on TV3 (April 11, 2025), the outspoken lawmaker stated that the bill—which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana—has been formally presented as a Private Member’s Bill and is awaiting review by Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

“I have laid the bill before Parliament, and my position has not changed,” George asserted. “LGBTQ+ practices are an abomination and must not be tolerated in Ghana.”

This follows his earlier pledge to the Appointments Committee in January, where he vowed to reintroduce the bill in the 9th Parliament, describing it as crucial to safeguarding Ghana’s moral and cultural values.

“If I have to reintroduce it myself, I will,” he declared. “This bill is not just legislation—it’s about preserving the soul of our nation.”

Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has hinted that the bill might gain greater legitimacy if backed by the government rather than being a private member’s initiative.

Speaking at a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference, Mahama acknowledged the bill’s cultural significance but suggested that education and family values could be more effective tools than strict legislation.

“For broader acceptance, a government-sponsored approach may be more effective,” he said, though he stopped short of committing to prioritize the bill under his administration.
