Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey has alleged that certain individuals in the music industry, such as Gospel artist Nacee, are against the government’s proposed creation of a state-of-the-art recording studio for musicians.
This program, outlined in the NPP’s 2020 manifesto, planned to offer musicians a space to record music and other projects at lower costs.
Nevertheless, during the Entertainment Creative Arts forum on August 30, 2024, Okraku-Mantey clarified that the suggestion was met with substantial opposition in the sector.
“The industry fought against it. Some were for it, some were against but the against were higher.
“The industry rejected and said we should share the money amongst them that they already have studios which were doing well,” he claimed.
He also mentioned that Nacee originally backed the idea but eventually shifted his position.
“You can quote me anywhere. Nacee, a few weeks ago was on Hitz FM, he went to Peace FM again and was asked and he said at the time, he supported but he feels that now, we don’t need it,” he said.
In spite of the setback, Okraku Mantey mentioned that the government is willing to reconsider the project if there is a new interest from the industry.
