NAM1 HIRES NEW LAWYER, FILES REPEAT APPLICATION AT SUPREME COURT TO QUASH HIGH COURT ORDER

Former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct gold dealership firm Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, widely known as NAM1, has reportedly taken fresh legal steps in his ongoing criminal trial by engaging a new lawyer and petitioning the Supreme Court for intervention.

According to sources familiar with the case, NAM1 has filed a renewed application before the Supreme Court, seeking to quash an order issued by the High Court directing him to open his defence.

The application also reportedly asks the apex court to prohibit the trial judge from proceeding further with the matter until the Supreme Court determines the legality of the High Court’s directive.

The High Court order in question followed a ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the former Menzgold boss, thereby requiring him to begin his defence.

However, NAM1 is said to be challenging the legal basis of that decision, arguing that the order was improperly made and should be set aside.

As of now, neither NAM1’s legal team nor the Attorney-General’s Department has publicly commented on the fresh application. The Supreme Court is yet to indicate when it will hear the matter.
