“WHY ARE MANY PHD HOLDERS HUNGRY IN GHANA?” – Efia Odo Quizzes Prof. Kobby Mensah

Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has taken issue with a statement made by Prof. Kobby Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), regarding the purpose of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

In his remarks, Prof. Mensah indicated that a PhD is not appropriate for those who are hungry, job hunting, or striving for entrepreneurship.

He stressed that a PhD is not meant to address immediate financial requirements or lead directly to a job or business venture.

Efia Odo responded by pointing out that even those with PhDs can still have financial difficulties and encounter obstacles in life. She noted that there are individuals who, despite lacking esteemed academic credentials, are able to make substantial amounts of money.

In a recent post on X platform, Prof. Mensah restated his belief that a PhD is not suitable for individuals facing severe financial hardship or seeking quick job placements or entrepreneurial prospects.

In response, Efia Odo questioned on X, “So why are many PhD holders in Ghana experiencing financial difficulties?”
