NANA KONADU PASSING: FAMILY APPEALS FOR PRIVACY AS THEY MOURN
The family of the late former First Lady confirms they are in "deep mourning" and says funeral details will be announced by the government in due course.

The family of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has requested privacy as they grieve her passing, confirming that President John Mahama and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, have been formally notified of her death.
At a brief press conference held at her Ridge residence in Accra, family head Oheneba Lovelace Prempeh expressed the family’s profound loss and asked the public and media to respect their need for solitude during this difficult time.
“The family has informed His Excellency the President, who, in turn, caused a statement to be issued confirming Nana Konadu’s death,” Prempeh stated. “At this stage, we are in deep mourning and respectfully ask for privacy. All further announcements will be made by the government.”
Nana Konadu, who served as First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and was Ghana’s first female presidential candidate, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the age of 76 after a short illness.
The government had earlier declared three days of national mourning and directed that flags be flown at half-mast in her honor. The family indicated that details regarding her burial will be communicated publicly by the President at the appropriate time.
