Afenyo-Markin accused National Security personnel of entering the house of Dr. Ernest Addison, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, on Wednesday, March 19.
He said these people took valuable items, including money and jewelry, from the home.
He explained that the group was led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat. Afenyo-Markin stated they took an unspecified amount of cedis from Dr. Addison’s bedroom.
He also accused them of taking earrings and necklaces that belonged to Dr. Addison’s wife.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, March 20, Afenyo-Markin condemned the operation, saying it was illegal and a misuse of authority.
He urged President John Mahama to take quick action against those involved in the incident.
“Some GHC10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use who parade themselves as National Security Operatives are after all perhaps not being paid and they use this opportunity to steal.
“The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not traced. They couldn’t be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a matured democracy and we should do better.”
