NDC COMMEMORATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF JERRY JOHN RAWLINGS’ PASSING
The party's statement honored its founder's legacy and also paid tribute to his late wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, noting she is yet to receive a formal state funeral.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has solemnly marked the fifth anniversary of the passing of its founder and former President, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the party lauded the late leader for his enduring contributions to Ghana’s development and the welfare of its people, affirming that his legacy remains “firmly etched in the country’s history.”
The commemoration was tinged with a double sense of loss, as the statement also paid homage to Rawlings’ late wife, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, who passed away on October 23, 2025. The party noted that the former First Lady is yet to receive a farewell befitting her “lifetime of service to the nation.” A state funeral has been scheduled for her on November 28.
“The past five years have been ones of mourning and sorrow for us in the NDC,” the party’s statement reflected, ending with the words, “Comrade President, Chairman Rawlings, continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.”
The former President, who founded the NDC and became the first President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, died on November 12, 2020. The simultaneous remembrance of both iconic figures underscores a period of profound reflection for the party as it navigates the contemporary political landscape while honoring its foundational history.
